Collection & Preservation
The Mary Kawena Pukui Hale is made up of six collections that comprise a total of over 3,000 Hawaiian language and cultural resources and materials gathered from both within and outside Kawaihuelani. These resources are produced locally by our faculty and students and/or are used extensively by our faculty and students in their teaching, curriculum development, and research. Many of the resources in these collections cannot be found in any other library or resource center.
All resources are stored in the physical center located on the UH Mānoa campus and available for use by in-house visitors by appointment only. In order to preserve these unique resources and improve their accessibility, the MKPH has created and continues to maintain and expand Hawaiian language databases and electronic indexes for the five main collections.
Please find below a brief description of the six collections and their contents.
